“A Chinese school has received a national award for the quality of its teaching. The Dacorum Chinese School Association in Hemel Hempstead, that teaches Mandarin from beginner's level to A level, was praised for the variety of learning it offers. It organises Tai Chi classes and Chinese art activities, cultural events and trips.
The school has now received a Quality in Study Support (QiSS) award for its efforts, part of an initiative by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
The scheme praises and rewards activities offered to children and young people outside their normal lesson time.
The Chinese school, which boasts 106 students aged five to 75, received the award at County Hall, Hertford, in December. County councillor Keith Emsall, executive member for education, said: "Study support has a real impact on learning and opens up opportunities for children and young people in Hertfordshire. "It focuses on learning in its widest sense and all the evidence shows that it raises young people's confidence, enjoyment of learning and overall attainment." The government believes learning outside of school motivates young people and raises their self-esteem, while the QiSS recognition scheme provides evidence for Ofsted.”

In 2009 the entire GCSE class achieved grade A*, a great achievement and, even better, the 2010 class also all achieved A*. Congratulations to both groups!
ASSET Mandarin Exams
Two students from the Adult Intermediate class, Lily Cayless and Michael Mumford, attempted Asset Language exams in summer 2010. Michael did Reading and Writing at Preliminary level and Lily did Reading, Writing and Listening at Breakthrough level. They both attained the top grades available in all their exams.
The same students took more exams this Spring (2011) and Lily achieved top grades across the board at Preliminary level (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening), while Michael got top grades at two skills (Speaking and Listening) at Preliminary level and top grades at two skills (Reading and Writing) at Intermediate level. Congratulations to them both!
